The rendezvous with Commander Skinner was nothing they didn't expect. He was not in a good mood for just loosing a billion dollar boat, but he was happy that he could get the cargo. Gibbs made it clear that the team would keep the 'Top Secret' boat under wraps and that they wanted to go home. They were taken back to NAS Anacostia and picked up their van; finally heading back to headquarters.
Getting word that the team was on the way back to the office, Jenny decided that she would go let Abby know. It was unofficially known around the office that Abby and Tim were going strong since his book almost lead to her demise several months back.
Expecting the lab tech to have just arrived for her shift, she got a surprise when she walked inside and saw the young woman had fallen asleep at her computer, her right hand clutching the mouse, while her left elbow was sitting on the table, holding her head up.
Abby had been afraid to leave her lab the night before; she didn't want to go to the concert and the team need her, so she chose to stay and miss it.
Trying not to laugh, Jenny walked towards her, "Abby," she started, but with no response, she moved closer and set a hand on her shoulder, "Abby," she said again.
Abby jumped and whipped around to see who startled her and almost hit the director with her pig tails. "Director... I... You see..." She stumbled, not quite awake and trying to come up with an excuse as to why she was asleep at her computer.
"The team is on their way back to the office. I thought you'd like to wait with me upstairs for them," she said gently.
"They are? Are they alright? I thought they were infected with something? What happened?" She questioned.
"It's a long story, but they're safe and healthy," Jenny promised.
"Right, of course, they wouldn't be able to come back here if they weren't... Okay," Abby hopped up and looked at her, "let's go," she commented.
Jenny followed her to the elevator and the two stepped on and headed upstairs. As they took the elevator up, Jenny filled Abby in on the evening's details and when they walked onto the main floor, Abby immediately went to sit at Tim's desk and the director leaned against Gibbs'. "So you and Agent McGee," Jenny smiled.
"Um, yes, but we don't technically work together so..." Abby again stumbled nervous at why the director brought it up.
"I don't care. You two are happy. I'm glad."
"Yes, thank you. We are," she smiled. "I... Six months," she added, "we try to keep it apart from work."
"You two are doing a good job at it," Jenny assured her, "just promise me that I won't have you two in my office for problems," she said.
"Oh yes of course director," Abby nodded, "we don't... I mean we'll be... You won't see us in your office for that, promise," she said hearing the ding on the elevator.
Abby jumped up and rushed over as the doors opened. She jumped at Gibbs; hugging him, "Gibbs! I'm so glad you all are alright," she exclaimed pulling away.
"We're fine Abbs," he said with a smirk moving towards the director.
"Ducky!" She hugged him and after he greeted her, he stepped aside and joined Gibbs.
Ziva, still not used to Abby's physical hugging, held her hand up, "hello Abby, thank you for the concern, but we are fine," she smiled and moved aside.
Abby quirked her eyebrows at Ziva, but passed it off with a nod and moved to Tony, hugging him like he had Ducky and Gibbs. "Hey Tony," she said pulling away.
"Hey there Abby, could have warned me a little sooner about the whole smelling the blood thing," Tony commented.
"Oh Tony, I'm sorry, I should have said that first, but you shouldn't smell blood, do you know how gross that is?" She smirked moving aside and not waiting to hear his answer.
With the greetings from Abby right as everyone got off the elevator, Tim was still standing in it, waiting for them to move. Seeing her near him he dropped his bag to the floor and closed the distance between them, pulling her close, "hey there Abby. Sorry I missed the concert," he murmured against her neck.
She took in the familiar scent of his cologne for just a moment before looking at him, "its okay, Timmy," she started, refusing to let go of him, "I missed it too. I was too worried about you and the rest of the team to enjoy it," she said placing a quick kiss on his lips.
Tim blushed, but returned the kiss before pulling away to see their audience included Tony snapping photos.
"Tony, stop," Tim started.
The smack on the back of Tony's head told him to give up and he lowered the camera and glared at Gibbs. "Give it up, DiNozzo. Give them some privacy."
"Yeah, boss," Tony said moving away, muttering "he's take away all the fun."
"You'll be having a lot of fun when I set up surveillance equipment up in your apartment to watch what you do and then see how you like it," Gibbs commented with a smirk as he heard Tony.
While Gibbs gave Tony a hard time, Tim had picked up his bag and he and Abby walked over to his desk. She'd leaned on the edge and he'd sat down in his chair, "I don't know if I'll be able to get out of here anytime soon," he told her, "paperwork and stuff."
She scrunched up her nose and looked over at Gibbs, "you take them out all night and you won't even give them time off?"
"Hey, that's not my call," he said motioning to Jenny.
"Come on, Director, a night off, please?" Tony begged exhausted from the night before.
The director was standing next to Ducky and she turned to everyone. "You all did a great job, take the day off and see you back here tomorrow," she smiled, looking at each one of them.
Hardly hearing permission from the Director, everyone dispersed, leaving Tim and Abby still at his desk, not alone and able to talk.
"I've got to get my stuff from the lab before I leave," she said softly.
Tim stood up with his bag in hand, "I'll walk you," he smiled at her and followed her towards the elevator.
The two silently waited for the elevator and when it opened, they stepped on and just as the doors shut and on its way down to the lab, Abby flipped the emergency stop, just like Gibbs usually did, causing the car to lurch as it settled on the cable between floors.
Tim didn't expect her to flip the switch, but when she did he lost his balance and fell back against the wall of the car. Dropping his bag, he caught himself on the handles. "Abby!"
She turned around and moved towards him, a grin on her face. "Just finding another use for Gibbs' office," she grinned pulling him to her and kissing him.
It took him a moment to realize what she said, but he quickly deepened the kiss and slipped his arms around her waist, tugging her closer to him.
Needing air, Abby pulled away and punched him in the shoulder, "don't ever scare me like that again!"
Seeing her change in emotion, Tim looked at her curiously, "what did I do?"
"You went and almost got yourself killed!"
Still holding on to her, he tugged her closer, "Abs, this was no different than any other case I've been on. I put myself in danger a lot," he said softly.
"Yeah, but you usually don't go onto ships and get around deadly diseases! What... What if that had been airborne and you had to stay on the ship? What if they blew you up with it?" She asked trying to get out of his grasp to pace, but he was holding her tight.
He gently moved a hand up to run it through her hair, "shhh, Abs, what if the 'what if' doesn't happen?" He asked softly, "I'm fine," he promised.
Abby closed her eyes and tightened her arms around him, burying her head against his neck before speaking. "I... I don't want to loose you," she murmured, "I'm scared that you'll get hurt or worse and I won't be able to see you again," she sighed, "we've only been together six months, but I'm still scared and..."
Tim silenced her with a gentle yet loving kiss, and pulled away enough to reply, "it's been the happiest six months of my life and we both knew when we started our relationship that there might be a chance I could get hurt, but we accepted it then, so we need continue to accept that there is a risk, but it's a risk I'm willing to take because I love you."
"I love you, too, and I'm willing to take that risk, too, but it's still scary," she murmured.
Guiding her backwards a little he kissed her forehead and flipped the switch to allow the car to continue its trip down to the lab, "it is, but I will do anything in my power to stay safe, and besides; with you to come home to, I have a reason to be careful."
"Come home to?" She asked with a grin, "really?"
"Really," Tim promised pressing a kiss to her lips before moving aside and picking up his bag.
As the elevator stilled and the doors opened, Abby stepped out with a glowing smile on her face.
